High School Basketball: Thursday, February 12, 1998
By Art Redd Coach Bill Lane of Bishop Eustace watched his Crusaders struggle in the second and third quarters against Cherry Hill West. But when the final quarter ended, Coach Lane would be congratulated by everyone on his 300th win with a 69-66 victory. The Crusaders also continued their undefeated season by scoring 21 points in the fourth quarter to stretch their record to 15-0. The Lions in the second quarter would use the full court press to close the gap late in the first half. Cherry Hill West's Nashir Dukes would steal the ball and convert on the lay-up with 5.9 seconds left to close the lead to 3, ending the half. The Lions would go on an 8-2 run in the third quarter to take the lead, 45-42, on a 3-pointer by Ed Taylor at the 6:12 mark. It was Quinn Tamm who tied the game with a 3 pointer. The Lions would lead by 4 going into the final quarter. Chris Arnold and Andre Williams would pick up their offensive game to drive past West. Arnold, who went scoreless in the second quarter, picked up the pace in the 4th quarter when needed. Williams would score 15 second half points to lead the Crusaders. But the Lions would not give up late in the game. After being down 8 points with less than a minute left, the Lions would pull within 2 points with 12 seconds remaining in the game. The Crusaders would convert on their free throws to seal the milestone win for Coach Bill Lane. Andre Williams had a game high 31 points and Chris Arnold had 16 points for Bishop Eustace. Ed Taylor led the Lions with 24 points while Quinn Tamm chipped in 16 points.
