It was a classic rivalry between East versus West, Cougars against Lions, Cherry Hill battling Cherry Hill. Fore the entire game played at Cherry Hill East High School, both teams had their chances of being the field hockey squad that could have come away with the victory. Both of these teams worked hard toward proving who the better team was on this day. Then it happened, the Cougars would get that goal that would decide the game from Stephanie Scarpa. East would be able to hold onto that lead and pick up the win.
The Lady Lions took control of this game early looking to pick up an important win on their opponents’ field. They would make themselves right at home keeping most of the play on East’s end of the field. That’s when the defense would limit any good shots towards the cage keeping this game scoreless. If a shot did find its way headed to the cage, goalie Amy Agbottah for the Cougars was able to come up with the save. West’s goalie Paula Broussard also kicked away several shots to keep this game without a goal at halftime. It wasn’t until the 12:48 mark of the second half that the first goal would be scored by Scarpa from an assist by Allie Hoffman. The Cougars would be able to withstand each and every charge the Lions would make and preserve their one goal win.
