Cherry Hill East built a five-goal lead and had to hang on. Township rallied with four goals in the third period, but fell short in a 6-5 loss in Tier 2 action at Hollydell on Friday night. Andrew Rovinsky led Cherry Hill with two goals and an assist; John Candelori paced the Township attack with two goals. Defensive breakdowns led to the first two goals as Rovinsky broke down the left side and after being stopped on his first shot, put home his own rebound to make it 1-0. Late in the period East broke in 3-on-1 with Louis Stomel setting up Mike Danyo and a 2-0 advantage.
Goals by Rovinsky and Jon Sacks built the lead to 4-0 early in the second period and when freshman Zach Samson, making his first varsity start, scored from in close, East led 5-0 and seemingly was in control of the game. Marco Jordan finally put Township on the board with a goal late in the second period but Cherry Hill defenseman's shot from the point eleven seconds later deflected off a Township player and into the net. East led 6-1 heading into the final period. Goals by Stephen Overpeck, Dom Fiandra and two by Candelori closed the gap to 6-5, but Township could not get the equalizer.
