The Lenape soccer team was fresh off of a win against Moorestown and Cherry Hill East were fresh off a win in a bruising contest against Washington Township. They both looked terrific in the first half. About half way through the second half, the Lady Cougars got on the board and a few minutes later did it again. Lenape, who had the edge through the entire first half and a good part of the second, lost a lot of their enthusiasm and the third goal for East came very easily.
Lenape clearly had the edge in the first half, but occasional offensive flurries from Cherry Hill by Nicole Thurston and Mary Daly had nothing to show for on the scoreboard. While Lenape had the better of the play, a very well balanced defense of Julie Lukoff, Katie Boyle, Mary Daly, Jacklin Greenstien, Perri Brenner and Shana Herman did a terrific job of keeping keeper Emily Brenner's work light.
At the nineteen minute mark of the second half, Brittany Kaplan took the ball from the right corner and passed it across the goal mouth to Nicole Thurston. Thurston then faded to the left and got a terrific shot off to the right corner to open the scoring (1-0). Less than four minutes later Perri Brenner fed the ball up to Nichol Thurston and Christine Mullin who managed to out run the defense to the goal for an easy score. Lenape's frustration was visible and the edge clearly went over to Cherry Hill. Lenape's Jamie Weist picked up a yellow card at 12:43 and within 30 seconds, Shana Herman and Brittany Kaplan teamed up for Cherry Hill's third goal to take a 3-0 lead.
While the score was tied through most of the game, the play was terrific. It was a fairly physical yet very clean game unlike the Cherry Hill/Washington Township game that broke Amanda Kravtitz's nose. Amanda should be back in a few weeks.
