Brendan Ramsay and Chris Sabol put on a clinic in strong goaltending, but it was Ramsay's strong play in the third period that enabled Cherry Hill East to edge Cherokee 2-1 in a game played at Hollydell on Friday night. Each goalie took turns carrying their team in the first period with Sabol stopping all eleven shots, including several from point blank range to keep the game scoreless heading into the middle stanza. The second period was Ramsay's turn as he stoned several Cherokee players on breakaways and the game remained scoreless until less than four minutes remaining in the period.
Cherry Hill's Ken Danyo broke in on Sabol, who made the initial save, but could not control the puck as he was lying flat on his back, with the net wide open Kevin Desrochers pounced on the rebound and his goal made it 1-0 East. With fourteen seconds left in the period, Danyo skated in all alone and beat Sabol top shelf to give East a 2-0 lead heading into the third period.
Early in the third period Ramsay made his best save of the game as Cherokee's Tim Edwards was all-alone in front and had enough time to make several moves but could not dent the wall Ramsay had set up. Late in the game Cherokee had a four-minute power play and Andrew Dellavecchio finally beat Ramsay but Cherokee could not clear the puck out of their own zone and the game ended at 2-1.
