High School Ice Hockey: Cherokee Balance Overwhelms Highland Monday, November 22, 2004 By Mike Costantino SJSports Staff Writer Nine different players scored as Cherokee rolled over Highland 10-0 in the South Jersey High School Ice Hockey League action at the Skate Zone in Voorhees on Monday night. Cherokee scored six goals in the first period and never looked back and were led by Patrick McMahon with two goals and two assists, Dan Altieri and Angelo DiBatista added a goal and an assist. One can only wonder if the league will wake up and correct this unbalanced schedule. For example, the two games we saw last night would have been more competitive had they switched opponents. Clearview should have played Cherokee and Highland could have played Holy Cross. This match-up occurred earlier in the season and surprisingly both games were competitive. Holy Cross and Highland tied at 4-4, and Cherokee defeated Clearview 4-2. Coach Rumbus of Cherokee was one who fought for the Tier system to stay in tack but was unsuccessful in convincing the league. Also scoring goals last night were Matt Loprete, Lou Sarcone, Sean Hunt, Jake Davis, Justin Kinniry and Steve Sheridan. Notes: Cherokee spent the majority of the third period in the offensive zone and worked on passing the puck and showed some class by not trying to pad their stats. Photos by Art Redd
