Tim Missell scored two goals as Cherokee defeated Cherry Hill East 5-2 in Tier 1 action in Voorhees. Rebounding from a loss to rival Eastern last week, Coach Rumbus had his Chiefs in control from the opening period. Pat McMahon scored the only goal of the period, converting a perfect pass from the corner from Mike Garofolo. Missell made it 2-0 as he broke down the left side early in the second period and picked the short side for a 2-0 lead. Twenty seconds later Cherry Hill got one back as Tim Woods scored from in close.
Cherokee responded on the power play. With East down two men, Frank Jablonski blasted a shot from the point that found the back of the net and Cherokee led 3-1. Utilizing three lines and short shifts, Cherokee seemed quicker to the puck and Nick Scian increased the lead to 4-1 as he picked up the puck in the slot and wristed a shot into the net. Aaron Rovinsky scored a power play goal for East to cut the lead to 4-2, but Missell again came down the left side and using the defenseman as a screen, picked the short side and the lead grew to 5-2 after two periods. Although there was no scoring in the third period, Cherokee kept the pressure on and out-shot East 37-14 overall.
