Kevin Magnin scored two goals and Cherokee played a strong defensive game in front of Bobby Colasoro as they shut out Cherry Hill East 5-0 and advanced into the semi-final game against Rancocas Valley on Wednesday night at Voorhees. Most of the first period was spent feeling each other out; no one wanted to make that first mistake or turnover. Cherokee finally broke through in the last thirty-six seconds as Magnin broke in with Dan Shaw and Mike Garofolo, with only one man back for East. Garofolo hit Magnin down low and his back-hander found the net for a 1-0 lead.
Cherokee made it 2-0 on another odd-man rush as Tim Missell scored on a break. Down the other end, Colasoro was stoning Mike Antonelli in close and robbed Louis Stommel to keep East off the board. Magnin made it 3-0 as he camped out in the slot and Garofolo hit him with a perfect pass. Goals by Rich DeLuca and Sean Stricher in the third period closed the door on Cherry Hill’s season.
Notes: Cherokee Coach Steve Rumbos, who has taken heat all season, now has his team one win away from the finals.
