Matt Loprete scored three goals and Brandon McCarty added two as Cherokee rolled over Shawnee 9-1 in SJHSIHL action played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees on Monday night. After a scoreless first period, Cherokee scored four goals in the second period, three in less than 3 minutes and all on odd-man rushes. Tim Missel put Cherokee up 1-0 converting a 2-on-1 as Mick Scian created the opportunity with great hustle. Moments later McCarty picked up a loose puck at center ice and broke in alone beating the goalie with a quick shot and a 2-0 lead.
Loprete than scored the next three goals, converting passes from Kevin Magnin on two of them and banging home a rebound on the power play. The only goal allowed by Chris Sabol was a shot by Lenny Burkhardt that seemed to deflect off the defenseman's stick and change direction. Dan Altieri, Scian and Magnin also chipped in with goals as Cherokee enjoyed their biggest offensive effort of the season.
