Chris Sabol stopped twenty-three shots and four different players scored as Cherokee blanked Eastern 4-0 in action at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Missing several players due to injury, Eastern only had two lines available but received a solid performance in nets by Dan Myers. Cherokee however continues to prove that they are a serious contender for the title this year and remain just two points behind Clearview in the battle for first place. Sean Zhacewski scored five minutes into the game, as he was camped in the slot and converted a nice pass from the corner by Mike Scian to make it 1-0.
Just about three minutes later Cherokee made it 2-0 scoring on a 2-on-1 break. Dan Shaw drew the defensemen over and got Myers to commit and that left the net wide open. Shaw slid the puck to Brandon McCarthy who deposited the puck into the empty net. Later in the period Pat Henderson scored on a breakaway and despite being out-shot in the period Cherokee led 3-0 after one. The only goal of the second period was another odd man rush as Mike DePerro broke in with Shaw and after Myers made the initial save, Shaw pounced on the rebound and lifted the puck over Myers. The third period although scoreless, was a little testy, but Cherokee Coach Ketchell called a timeout to re-focus his team and cooler heads prevailed.
