High School Baseball: Saturday, April 4, 1998
By Vincent Lewis Jr. Play Ball! That's the sound you would hear all around South Jersey high school ball parks. The only thing missing was the warm temperatures and bright sunny skies. When Highland went to Cherokee High School, both teams were greeted with light rain and cold temperatures. Each player was trying to find a way to keep warm and get them through seven innings of baseball. It would be Cherokee who would heat up for a come from behind victory and defeat Highland 12-6 for their first win of this young 1998 season. Highland would use up all of their hot chocolate in the early innings and jump out with 3 first inning runs and then take a 6-3 lead into the bottom of the fourth inning. The Chiefs would then score the remaining 9 runs of the game to defeat Highland. Starting pitcher Chris Murray came through with the win and Dave August would highlight the day with a homerun.
