High School Wrestling: Camden Catholic Easily Captures Sectional Title Thursday, February 14, 2002 By Vincent Lewis SJSports Staff Writer One by one St. Augustine sent their wrestlers out on the mat to compete against the Fighting Irish from Camden Catholic. Both teams were looking to capture the South Jersey Parochial B Title, but it would be Camden Catholic (23-2-1) who would dominate the match from the beginning to tie their school record for wins in a season. The Irish never let St. Augustine get a strong hold on them as they won the first 10 bouts before the Hermits recorded their first team points. Camden Catholic manhandled St. Augustine 58- 7 to win the match and now have their sites set on capturing the state title. Heading into this title match, St. Augustine rolled all over Bishop Eustace in the semifinals by the score of 50-15. The highlights from that match included the heavyweight Brandon Taylor and Frank McGrath who both recorded wins by pinning their opponents. Camden Catholic shut out McCorristin 78-0 in their previous match to make it to the finals. With both of these teams success, the evening would start out with the 215 and heavyweight matches. It didn't take long to watch the momentum to swing quickly in favor of the Fighting Irish. After Camden Catholic's Tom Cassano score a 3-1 decision over McGrath in the first bout of the night, the heavyweight match up between Joe LoCastro and Brandon Taylor set the tone for the rest of the evening. With just 48 seconds into the first period, LoCastro extended the Irish lead to a 9-0 lead. The evening ended early for the Hermits as they fell victim to a very good and determined Irish team.
