It was a semifinal game that had both teams playing excellent defense that kept the fans on pins and needles knowing that one of the teams had to lose. Camden Catholic was hosting Bishop Eustace in the South Jersey Group 2 semifinal field hockey game. There was a lot of excitement each time a team had position in the circle. That's when the crowd got louder in anticipation of a goal being scored. The Irish took a 2-0 lead when Maureen Casserly scored the deciding goal in the second half to push the Irish into the finals for their second consecutive year.
Both of these teams have been rivals for years with the Irish always seem to come out on top. In this playoff meeting, the Lady Crusaders keep the pressure on their opponent in search of the illusive victory. The first half of this game took place mostly at midfield as the defense picked up. The teams battled to a scoreless tie.
Early on in the second half, Maureen Henderson gave Camden Catholic the lead with the game's first goal. Maureen Casserly got the deciding goal later when she nailed a shot just inside the circle for the 2-0 lead. Megan Foster would give Bishop Eustace their only goal of the game. Camden Catholic will face the Dragons for the South Jersey Group 2 Finals at top ranked Kingsway High School. The Dragons reached the finals by defeating Woodstown in a 1-0 overtime win. The Irish will be looking to avenging their lose last year in the finals.
