High School Wrestling: Wednesday, January 19, 2000
By Vincent Lewis Washington Township went to Camden Catholic High School knowing their wrestling meet would be a hard fought match. This Olympic Conference matchup would be decided in the 215-pound match between Township's Mike D'Andrea and the Irish's Alex Stephenson. D'Andrea's 5-4 decision sealed the victory for Township (8-2) who went on to defeat the Irish (10-4) in a close match, 30-29. The Irish jumped out to a 12-0 lead when Ed Giosa pinned Dave Tomasette and Bob Stinson won by forfeit. Township took the next four matches to take the lead. Nick Curcio pinned Mark Koszyk in the 125-match for Township. Mike Booth would end the streak for Township when he scored a technical fall over Shea Harris (21-3). Now with the match in favor of Washington Township, 27-23, the key matchup between D'Andrea and Stephenson took place. This tight bout went down to the wire when D'Andrea scored a 5-4 victory to clinch the match. With a 30-23 lead, Sean Milowe's pin only made the score closer than it seemed. Photos by Forrest Robleto
