High School Basketball: Tuesday, January 6, 1998
By Art Redd Camden Catholic, coming off of a loss, defeated Woodrow Wilson in this Olympic Conference North Divisional game. It was Kate Caputi's 18 second half points which contributed to the Lady Irish 56-36 victory. She finished with a game high 25 points. Jessica Yoder contributed 9 points and was a force in the middle with blocked shots and cleaning up on the boards. The Lady Tigers would hold their own with Sheena Gantt and Joy Silver boxing out Yoder. But Woodrow Wilson would not convert on most of their second shot chances. The double team would continue on the defensive end to slow down the Irish's offense. Yoder would respond by positioning herself for a turn-around jumper or dish the ball off to a wide open player for an easy bucket. The Irish would have a seven point lead at the end of the first quarter. Both teams would play an even second quarter with Camden Catholic leading at the half 21-13. The second half saw the Irish go on an 11-1 run and force Coach Coleman to call a timeout with 3:57 left in the third quarter. Bridget Casserly would come off of a low pick set by Yoder and start the scoring with a jumper just inside the 3 point arch. Yoder also showed that she wasn't just an inside player by draining a three from the top of the key. But let's not forget about Kate Caputi. She would score the first seven points to start the final quarter and widen their lead to a game high 21 points. With the win, the Irish would remain on top of their division.
