High School Basketball: Tuesday, March 6, 2007 By Jerome Michaels It was a game that a lot of people wanted to see which team would come away with the win. The Camden Panthers and the Renegades from Shawnee took center stage competing for the South Jersey Group 3 title game played at Eastern High School. Shawnee had the momentum through three quarters and weren't quite able to complete put the game away. The Panthers would rally and tie this game during the fourth quarter with less than a minute and a half remaining. Julian Sanders aggressive play scored the go ahead basket for Shawnee and the number one seeded Renegades would hold off the third seeded Panthers in front of a capacity crowd. Shawnee's 68-62 win extended their winning streak to seventeen games. |
High School Football: Saturday, October 21, 2006 By Clark Washington It has been a season of come from behind wins in the league and the Panthers from Camden have come away with several late victories. For the host, the Hornets from Pemberton, most of their focus would be on next week's opponent in an anticipated battle between the top two teams in their division. During the first half of the "Senior Day" game, Pemberton appeared to be in full control at the start of the second half leading by two touchdowns. Camden would claw their way back into this game, but a late rally would be halted by the Hornets swarming defense. Pemberton would be able to sit on their 20-12 lead late in the game and pick up their Burlington/Olympic Patriot Division win setting up next week's showdown. |
High School Basketball: Thursday, March 2, 2006 By Vincent Lewis There's something about attending school on a day when your school is hosting a playoff game. Walking through the hallways, individual conversations take place mostly asking about the game and whether they will in attendance. Highland would be hosting the second round of the South Jersey Group III boys' basketball tournament and the house was packed. The seventh seeded Panthers from Camden would bring their fans to this game looking to upset the second seeded Tartans. Trailing for the majority of this game through three full quarters, the Panthers began to convert on their second chance shots enabling them to propel past Highland. MacArthur Mason scored 17 of his game high points during the fourth quarter and ignited Camden to a 61-50 victory. The Panthers will now travel to Timber Creek during the semi-finals. |
High School Basketball: Tuesday, January 3, 2006 By Susan Hall Even before the season began, the Olympic Conference National Division seem to have several teams who could be ranked as a top team in South Jersey. Camden would be one of those teams in a rebuilding phase and would have to find a way to step up and compete with the other teams from their division. Camden Catholic would begin their game against the Lady Panthers quick and fast and control this game up until the very end. When the final buzzer was sounded, the Irish would walk off the court with an 83-34 victory at home. |
High School Football: Saturday, November 12, 2005 By Jerome Michaels It was amazing the way this game ended. No matter which team you were cheering for, it was an emotional roller coaster. The sixth seeded Panthers from Camden were in another situation where they had to win to move on. Winning a key game during the regular season allowed them a chance to capture the South Jersey Group II football title. Standing in their way were the third seeded Silver Knights from Sterling who featured arguably the best versatile player in the area with Arthur Ellis. The Panthers could not stop Ellis, but they were able to contain Sterling especially during the final moments of this first round game. An apparent touchdown on fourth and goal would be called back and Camden would hold on to upset Sterling 24-20. The Panthers will now host Collingswood next week. |
High School Football: Saturday, October 29, 2005 By Jerome Michaels You will always find those teams every year coming through with that victory late in the season in order to qualify for the playoffs. This year, the Panthers from Camden High would be one of those teams on the bubble looking for a way into the group tournament. Needing a win against the Eagles from Winslow Township, the Panthers were looking to pick up some important power points. Winslow Township's hopes of winning two games in a row against teams from Camden fell short as the Panthers running game proved to be the difference. Camden would expand on their halftime lead and propel themselves into the post season with a 22-14 victory. |
