South Jersey Football: Lynx Win League Opener Monday, July 18, 2005 By Marty Cross South Jersey Lynx cruise to a win against the New Jersey Longhorns 27-0. The Lynx defense stood strong as they have in the past. Defensively, the Lynx scored two touchdowns on fumble recoveries. Hayes Johnson picked up a fumble and ran 8 yards for a touchdown. Rashidi Goodman, scooped up a fumble and rumbled 12 yards in the 4th quarter for another score. The Lynx held the Longhorns offense to 3 only first downs. It was a team effort, everyone on defense played well. Offensively, the Lynx were sputtering all game. One bright spot was RB Fidel Napier, who scored the both the offensive touchdown. Napier opened up the scoring with a beautiful run on a screen pass from Marty Cross. On the next possession, Napier took a handoff to the left side and juked his way to a 72 yard touchdown run. Napier put on an MVP performance with 8 carries for 105 yards and a touchdown, 1 catch for 37 yards and a touchdown. This week in practice, the Lynx will fine tune their offense and get ready for their next opponent. In a sloppy muddy game which was delayed due to heavy rain and lightning, the game was considerably short. The Lynx ran only 26 plays from scrimmage in the entire game.
