Tennis Spotlight: Monday, September 11, 2006 By Bob Heller University of the Sciences in Philadelphia’s Amanda Bedway (Blue Mountain HS/Orwigsburg, PA) was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for the week ending September 10, 2006. Bedway opened the 2006 season with a perfect week, winning both her matches at #1 singles and both matches at #1 doubles. Starting the week on Wednesday against Arcadia University, Amanda teamed up with Sarah Leonard to record an 8-0 win at #1 doubles. Remaining perfect on the day, Bedway recorded a 6-0, 6-0 straight set win over Arcadia’s Cory Mazen at #1 singles. On Saturday, Bedway accounted for the Devils only two points in a 7-2 loss to Philadelphia University, earning an 8-4 #1 doubles win with Leonard for USP’s first point, and a straight set, 6-2, 6-1 win over Katie Stracquintino for the Devils’ second point. Bedway, a pharmacy major, is in her third season of competition for the Devils. This week’s Player of the Week award marks the third time in her career that Bedway has earned the honor. In two-plus years of competition at USP, she sports a 19-4 career singles mark and an 18-3 record in doubles. USP will face Neumann College at home starting at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 14, 2006 before taking on CACC rival Georgian Court University on Saturday, September 16, 2006, also at home and starting at noon. |
