Tennis Spotlight: Friday, May 5, 2006 By Bob Heller The Bloomsburg University women’s tennis team advanced to tomorrow’s NCAA East Regional Final by defeating the University of Sciences in Philadelphia, 5-0, at Bloomsburg University on Thursday afternoon. Bloomsburg jumped out to an early 3-0 advantage after doubles play. Amanda Bedway (So., Blue Mountain HS/Orwigsburg, PA) and Sarah Leonard (Fr., West Chester East HS/West Chester, PA) dropped their #1 doubles match to Iida Hokkanen and Torie Cunningham ,8-1 while Bloomsburg's Lindsey Wyckoff and Emily Murphy defeated Gabrielle Exler (Fr., Timber Creek HS/Sicklerville, NJ) and Christina Sebastiani (Fr., Paulsboro HS/Sewell, NJ) 8-1 at number two doubles. Michelle Inzillo (Jr, Atlantic City HS/Margate, NJ) and Rachel Salahub (Jr., Cedar Crest HS/Allentown, PA) lost to Tracy Nissenbaum and Lauren Colfer 8-2 at number three doubles. In singles matches, Cunningham won a 6-0, 6-0 match at number two, defeating Leonard and Colfer won a 6-0, 6-1 match at number four over Exler to clinch the victory for the Huskies. Bloomsburg will play Queens College (NY) on Friday at 9 a.m. for chance to play in the NCAA final sixteen in Kansas City, Missouri on May 9. The Devils end their 05-06 campaign with an 8-7 overall record. |
