Basketball Spotlight: Tuesday, December 7, 2004 By Bob Heller Shelby Rance connected on six of nine shots from the field and scored 15 points as the USP women's basketball team remained unbeaten in conference play with a 72-45 win over Wilmington College. Rance (So., Central Columbia HS/ Bloomsburg, PA) scored 11 of her 15 points in the first half as the Devils opened up a 31-15 advantage at the break. Shelby's only missed shots on the night came from three-point range as she was a perfect 6-for-6 inside the arc. Rance also added four steals, four rebounds and a pair of blocked shots. Joining Rance in double figures were Leah Shumoski (Jr., Marple-Newtown HS/Broomall, PA) and Rashanna Edwards (So., West Windsor-Plainsboro HS/Plainsboro, NJ). Shumoski, despite shooting 4-for-13 from the field had 10 points. In addition, Leah pulled down seven rebounds, had six steals and dished out three assists. Edwards reached the double figures mark for the second consecutive game with a 10-point performance on 4-for-5 shooting. Rashanna also had five steals and three assists. Offensively, USP shot 42.3% for the game, connecting on 30 of 71 shots from the field. meanwhile the USP defense forced 27 turnovers and held the Wildcats to just 33.3% shooting (18-54). USP also held the advantage on the boards 45-37. Michelle Whalen and Nordia Henry led Wilmington (3-4, 0-3 CACC) with 14 and 12 points respectively. The Devils are now 4-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play. USP takes to the road for a tough CACC matchup on Thursday, December 9, 2004 at Bloomfield College. |
