Tennis Spotlight: Thursday, October 21, 2004 By Bob Heller The LaSalle University Men's Tennis team captured two of the three doubles matches, earning the doubles points, and three singles matches to squeeze past the University of the Sciences yesterday, 4-3. The Explorers captured both the #1 and #2 doubles and #3, #5 and #6 singles to earn the win. In doubles competition, USP's only win was at #3 doubles. Ryan Pell (So., West York Area HS/York, PA) and Daniel Lewycky (Sr, Oratory Prep HS/Warren, NJ) defeated Eric Glick and Scott Karwowski 8-6. Tyler Weisel (Fr., Greater Latrobe Sr. HS/Greensburg, PA) and Roberto Franco (Jr., Abraham Lincoln HS (Lima, Peru)/Smithtown, NY) dropped their #1 doubles match to Marco Onorato and Blake Williams, 8-3 while Olufemi Ogunkorode (So., Upper Darby HS/Upper Darby, PA) and Brandon Hocker (Fr., Chambersburg Area Sr. HS/Chambersburg, PA) fell to Ross Flockerzie and Jeff Plegaria, 8-4 at #2 doubles. In singles play, Weisel won his second straight match at #1 singles, defeating Onorato 6-0, 3-6, 6-0. Franco followed suit at #2 singles with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 win over Williams. Rounding out the Devils singles winners was Ogunkorode (So., Upper Darby HS/Upper Darby, PA) a 6-3, 6-3 winner over Karwowski at #4 singles. On the down side, Pell lost at #3 singles to Glick 6-0, 6-2 and Lewycky lost to Flockerzie 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 at #5 singles. Hocker also lost his singles match, 6-2, 6-2 to Plegaria at #6 singles.
