Tennis Spotlight: Thursday, October 14, 2004 By Bob Heller After opening the season with three losses in their first five matches, the USP women's tennis team has turned it around, winning their fourth straight match yesterday, a 7-2 triumph over Neumann College. The win improves the Devils record to 6-3 overall. The Devils captured two of the three doubles matches to start the afternoon off on a good note. Kristen Hickey (West Milford HS/West Milford, NJ) and Jacklyn Yee (Fr., South Brunswick HS/Kendall Park, NJ) defeated Ashley Miller and Maureen Fitzheury 8-6 at #2 doubles while Amy Wexler (Jr., Easton Area HS/Easton, PA) and Stephanie Gabel(So., Acad. of Allied Health & Science/Hazlet, NJ) were 8-6 winners over Katie Nell and Amanda Harich at #3 doubles. Amanda Bedway (Fr., Blue Mountain HS/Orwigsburg, PA) moved to 8-1 in singles competition this season with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Sarah Tomlinson at #1 singles. Michelle Inzillo (Jr, Atlantic City HS/Margate, NJ) defeated Miller 6-4, 6-4 at #2 singles and Anna Garber (So., Colonia HS/Colonia, NJ) defeated Nell 6-0, 6-1 at #4 singles. Rounding out the singles winners for the Devils were Hickey and Rachael Sneidman (So., Central Columbia HS/Bloomsburg, PA). Hickey won her first singles match of the season, 6-2, 6-0 over Harich at #5 singles. Sneidman was an 8-1 pro-set winner over Fitzheury at #6 singles. The Devils' only losses on the afternoon were at #3 singles (Shelly Roberts defeated Rachel Salahub (So., Cedar Crest HS/Allentown, PA) 7-6 (7-2), 6-4) and at #1 doubles (Tomlinson/ Roberts defeated Garber/Salahub 8-3).
