Tennis Spotlight: Saturday, October 2, 2004 By Bob Heller The USP women's tennis team evened their record at 3-3 with an easy 8-1 win over area rival Holy Family University, turning the tables on the Tigers after dropping their season opener to them 5-4. The Devils started off the afternoon capturing all three doubles matches. Amanda Bedway (Fr., Blue Mountain HS/Orwigsburg, PA) and Michelle Inzillo (Jr, Atlantic City HS/Margate, NJ) defeated Amanda Wolff and Ania Pawliszewska, 8-3 at #1 doubles while Amy Wexler (Jr., Easton Area HS/Easton, PA) and Amy Wojcik (Sr., Academy Park HS/Glenolden PA) teamed up to defeat Ara Casquez and Gina Meyer, 8-4 at #3 doubles. USP's #2 doubles team of Kristen Hickey (West Milford HS/West Milford, NJ) and Stephanie Gabel (So., Acad. of Allied Health & Science/Hazlet, NJ) had the closest match of the three, defeating Jaime Hill and Bridget Lavin 9-8 (7-5). In singles competition, the Devils captured five of the six matches. Bedway turned in another fine performance at #1 singles, defeating Amanda Wolff 6-0, 6-1 to move to 5-1 on the season. Inzillo also had an easy time at #2 singles, defeating Hill, 6-1, 6-2. Rata Hojjat (Jr., Southern Lehigh HS/Center Valley, PA) had a 8-0 pro-set win over Carolina Caceres at #3 singles and Jessica Webb (So., North Olmstead HS/North Olmstead, OH), playing at #5 singles recorded an 8-2 pro-set win over Marta Pawliszewska. Recording the fifth singles win for the Devils was Anna Garber (So., Colonia HS/Colonia, NJ), a 7-5, 6-0 winner over Meyer at #6 singles. |
