Tennis Spotlight: Thursday, September 23, 2004 By Bob Heller The USP women's tennis team evened their record at 2-2 with their first ever win against Division II area rival West Chester University this afternoon, defeating the Golden Rams 5-4. Starting the match with the doubles competition, USP dropped two of the three matches to trail 2-1 heading into singles competition. The Devils #1 doubles team of Amanda Bedway (Fr., Blue Mountain HS/Orwigsburg, PA) and Michelle Inzillo (Jr, Atlantic City HS/Margate, NJ) turned in the only doubles win on the afternoon for the Devils, an 8-6 pro-set victory over Amanda Zern and Sheila Sheridan. Bedway completed her perfect afternoon with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Zern at #1 singles, improving her singles record to 3-1 on the season. Tara Torrone (So., Red Bank Catholic, Lincroft, NJ) improved to 4-0 on the season in singles with a 7-6, 6-3 win over Jessica Toth at #5 singles. Rata Hojjat (Jr., Southern Lehigh HS/Center Valley, PA) and Jacklyn Yee (Fr., South Brunswick HS/Kendall Park, NJ) recorded the Devils other two singles wins. Hojjat was a 6-4, 7-5 winner over Megan Doyle at #4 singles while Yee earned an 8-5 pro-set victory over Tara Jockel at #6 singles. The Devils will return to action on Saturday when they travel to the Main Line to take on Cabrini College. |
