Tennis Spotlight: Monday, March 29, 2004 By Bob Heller The USP men's tennis team opened a stretch of three matches in three days with another win yesterday, defeating Widener University 6-1 to remain unbeaten on the season at 3-0. The Devils took five of the six singles matches to seal the win early. Ryan Pell (Fr., West York Area HS/York, PA) won his first singles match of the season, defeating Brad Lutz 6-3, 1-6, 6-1 at #1 singles. Joining Pell in the winners circle were teammates Olufemi Ogunkorode (Fr., Upper Darby HS/Upper Darby, PA); Dan Lewycky (Jr., Oratory Prep HS/Livingston, NJ); Yusuf Hassanali(Aga Khan Mzizima / Dar-Es Salaam, Tanzania); and Dave Sen (Fr., Eastern Regional HS/Voorhees, NJ). Ogunkorode defeated Mike Impriano 6-1, 6-1 to take the #3 singles match while Lewycky defeated Carlo Malkoun 3-6, 6-0, 6-0 at #4 singles. Hassanali defeated Andy Falocco 6-3, 6-1 at #6 singles and Sen got by Tom Dineen, 6-4, 6-4 at #5 singles. With the match in hand the Devils took two of three doubles matches to earn their final point of the afternoon. Amit Ray (Sr., Absegami HS/Galloway Twp., NJ) and Ogunkorode defeated Lutz and Malkoun 8-1 at #1 doubles and Sen and Nirav Pandya (Fr., Raritan HS/Hazlet, NJ) defeated Falocco and Chris Wolbers 8-4 at #3 doubles. |
