South Jersey Baseball: Thursday, May 4, 2006 By Dan Loney (Trenton, NJ)- Michael Bourn collected four hits and scored three runs to lead Reading to a 5-3 win over the Thunder on Thursday night. Yankees top prospect, Philip Hughes, allowed four runs over six innings to take the loss in his Double-A debut. Reading (11-14) took a 1-0 lead in the 1st Inning as Bourn singled, stole 2nd Base, moved to 3rd Base on a fielder's choice and scored on a wild pitch by Hughes. Bourn's single to start the 3rd Inning set up Reading's second run. He advanced to 3rd Base on a hit by LF John Castellano and scored on Jim Rushford's sacrifice fly. Trenton (9-16) came back to tie the game in the bottom of the third. Three straight two-out hits, including a two-run double by RF Bronson Sardinha, made it a 2-2 game off Reading starter Allen Davis. The R-Phils took a 4-2 lead in the 5th Inning with a pair of runs, inlcuding an RBI single by Rushford. Hughes (0-1) walked two and struck out three in his six innings of his first Double-A game. The Thunder got a run back in the 6th Inning on a Shelley Duncan solo homer off Davis, who allowed three runs in 6 2/3 innings. Davis (1-0) walked two and struck out for in the win. Reading added an insurance run in the 9th Inning. Tim Moss singled and moved to 3rd Base on Bourn's fourth hit of the night. And when Sardinha's throw bounced into the Phillies dugout, Moss scored for a 5-3 lead. Nick Mattioni then worked a scoreless bottom of the ninth for his 2nd save. Trenton begins a seven-game road trip on Friday with a doubeheader against the Connecticut Defenders. Tyler Clippard (0-4, 4.07) and Jorge DePaula (0-3, 3.74) start for the Thunder against the Defenders' Chris Begg (3-2, 2.08) and Mike Musgrave (0-0, 5.40). Game time is 6:05 PM.
