South Jersey Baseball: Saturday, August 13, 2005 By Dan Loney (Trenton, NJ)- A bases loaded walk to Eider Torres in the 8th Inning scored the go-ahead run in a 6-3 win by Akron over the Thunder on Saturday night. The teams traded runs over the first four innings. Akron (70-49) scored in the top half of the 1st, 3rd and 4th Innings, but Trenton (60-60) responded with a run each time in the bottom half. Akron got two RBI from 1B Shaun Larkin, including a solo homer, in the early parts of the game. Trenton had RBI hits from DH Michael Coleman and CF Melky Cabrera, along with a solo homer by LF Rudy Guillen. The Aeros took the lead in the 8th Inning. Thunder reliever Charlie Manning loaded the bases with a hit and two walks. With two outs, he walked 2B Eider Torres to force in the lead run. Manning (4-3) walked four batters in 2 1/3 innings of relief with one run on one hit. Akron added some insurance in the 9th Inning with a two-run homer by 3B Jose Morban off Trenton's Ben Julianel. Thunder pitchers walked seven batters in the last two innings of the game and have walked 17 batters in the last two games. Akron reliever Juan Lara (1-0) got the win with 1 1/3 scorless innings of relief. Edward Mujica worked 1 2/3 innings scoreless for his 6th save. Starter Jake Dittler kept his infield busy. He didn't allow a putout by an outfielder in six innings. Larkin recorded 19 put outs at first base in the game. The series concludes on Sunday at 1:35 PM. Steven White (0-5, 7.76) starts for Trenton against Akron's Bear Bay (3-2, 4.45).
