South Jersey Baseball: Wednesday, August 10, 2005 By Dan Loney (Trenton, NJ)- Home runs from Bronson Sardinha and Eric Duncan, along with six shutout innings from starter Calvin Maduro, led the Thunder to a 6-1 win over Reading on Wednesday. The win snaps a five-game home losing streak for Trenton. Maduro (1-0) blanked Reading on one hit through six innings to earn the win. He walked two and struck out four. CF Michael Bourn collected the only hit off maduro, a single in the 3rd Inning. Trenton (59-58) staked him to an early lead with a three-run homer by RF Bronson Sardinha, his 11th of the season, in the 3rd Inning against Reading starter Mike Smith. The Thunder added a run in the 4th Inning as Eric Duncan, walked, stole 2nd Base, moved to 3rd Base on a ground out and scored on a wild pitch. Then Duncan added a two-run homer, his 19th of the year, for a 6-0 lead. Smith (3-12) allowed six runs on six hits in six innings for the loss. Reading (57-61) broke the shutout in the 9th Inning with a pinch-hit homer by Jim Deschaine off Charlie Manning. Trenton begins a four-game series with Akron on Thursday at 7:05 Pm. Jeff Karstens (10-10, 4.11) starts for the Thunder against Akron's Jeremy Sowers (4-1, 2.44).
