South Jersey Baseball: Thursday, August 4, 2005 By Dan Loney (Manchester, NH)- New Hampshire scored four runs in the 1st Inning, including a three-run homer by 3B Rob Cosby, en route to a 5-2 win over Trenton on Thursday night. The Fisher Cats (53-57) jumped on Thunder starter Steven White right out of the box. CF Miguel Negron led off the inning with a double followed by a walk from 2B Ryan Roberts. LF Ron Davenport singled home Negron for a 1-0 lead. Cosby followed with a three-run homer, his 13th of the year, for a 4-0 advantage. The Thunder (56-55) got two runs back in the 5th Inning off Fisher Cats starter Vince Perkins with back-to-back RBI singles from Gabe Lopez and Bronson Sardinha. Perkins (4-6) allowed just those two runs over six innings for the win. But New Hampshire responded with a solo homer by Roberts off White in the bottom of the fifth for a 5-2 lead. White (0-4) allowed five runs on six hits in five innings. he walked one and struck out four. The rest of the story was the bullpen as New Hampshire got three scoreless innings combined from Tracy Thorpe and Jesse Carlson to preserve the win. Carlson went the final 1 2/3 innings for his 2nd save. Trenton's Eric Schmitt kept the Thunder close with three shutout innings of relief behind White. The Thunder begin a series in New Britain, CT against the Rock Cats on Friday. Game time is 7:05 PM. Calvin Maduro, just recalled from Columbus, will make his Trenton debut tomorrow against the Rock Cats' Jim Abbott (5-2, 4.65).
