South Jersey Baseball: Wednesday, July 27, 2005 By Dan Loney J.T. Stotts scored from 1st Base on a single and then an error by Erie CF Victor Mendez in a 9-8 Trenton win on Wednesday night. The game was delayed twice by rain, totalling 1 hour 42 minutes, and ended just before midnight. Trailing 8-3, Trenton (54-49) started their rally with a run in the 8th Inning off reliever John Birtwell with an RBI double by LF Nick Walsh. The Thunder started 9th Inning with a double and a walk. An error by Erie SS Tony Giarrantano on a Shelley Duncan pop up allowed Matt Carson to score and make it an 8-5 game. After a pitching change, Omir Santos launched a three-run homer off Erie closer Edwin Almote to tie the game. J.T. Stotts then walked with two outs and moved to 3rd Base on a single by PH Michael Coleman. When CF Victor Mendez overran the ball, Stotts came home to score the winning run. Thunder reliever Grant Roberts (1-0) pitched two scoreless innings for the win with four strikeouts. Almonte (1-4) took the loss allowing two runs (one earned) in 2/3 inning. Erie (54-49) jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first two innings against Thunder starter Charlie Isaacson. A single by Airoso scored Juan Tejeda in the 1st Inning. The SeaWolves scored four times in the second on a three-run triple by 2B Juan Francia and an RBI double by Tejeda. LF Kurt Airoso added a two-run homer off Isaacson in 5th Inning and a solo homer against Charlie Manning in the 7th Inning for an 8-3 lead. Isaacson (6-5) allowed seven runs on nine hits in 4 2/3 innings. Trenton and Erie wrap up their series on Thursday at 7:05 PM. Matt DeSalvo (6-4, 3.13) starts for the Thunder against the SeaWolves' Justin Verlander (1-0, 0.00), who hasn't allowed a run in 21 2/3 innings for Erie.
