RBI hits by LF Matt Carson and SS Ramiro Pena, along with seven strong innings by Ramon Ramirez, led the Thunder to a 2-1 win over Bowie on Thursday night. The win snapped a four-game losing streak for Trenton (47-44).
Bowie (44-46) scored their only run in the 3rd Inning off Ramirez. With one out, SS Brandon Fahey singled and stole 2nd Base. A walk to CF Peter Bergeron allowed DH Omar Rogers to deliever an RBI single for a 1-0 lead. But Ramirez (5-4) retired the last 10 batters he faced and 14 of the final 15 to earn the win. He allowed four hits over his seven innings with two walks and seven strikeouts.
Bowie starter Eric DuBose blanked the Thunder through the first six innings on five hits, getting out of jams in the 1st and 4th Innings. But the Thunder finally broke through in the 7th Inning. RF Bronson Sardinha doubled with one out. Carson followed with an RBI single to tie the game. Pena followed with an RBI triple to left for a 2-1 lead. DuBose (6-10), now tied for the league-lead in losses, allowed two runs in 6 1/3 innings on nine hits. He walked two and struck out 10.
Despite the win, Trenton remains in 3rd Place behind Portland and New Hampshire, but just 1/2 game in back of the Fisher Cats for 2nd Place and a playoff spot.
The series continues on Friday night at 7:05 PM. N.Y. Yankees Felix Rodriguez will start on a rehab assignment for Trenton. Bowie sends Hayden Penn (3-4, 3.79) to the mound.
