South Jersey Baseball: Thursday, July 7, 2005 By Dan Loney Portland scored single runs in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 6th Innings off Thunder starter Matt DeSalvo en route to a 4-0 win over the Thunder on Thursday afternoon. The loss drops Trenton back into 2nd Place in the Northern Division, one game behind the Sea Dogs. Portland (45-38) took advantage of four Trenton errors in the game, as three of their runs were unearned. With two on in the 2nd Inning, an error by Thunder SS Ramiro Pena allowed Portland CF David Murphy to score. The 3rd Inning saw a pairs of walks lead to an RBI single by Murphy for a 2-0 lead. In the 4th Inning, Portland C Alberto Concepcion single with the ball getting past Trenton CF Colin Porter for a two-base error. He scored on a sacrifice fly by LF Sheldon Fulse. Two errors in the sixth aided the sea Dogs to their final run. DeSalvo (5-3) allowed four runs (one earned) in six innings. Trenton (46-41) had an early threat against Portland starter Anibel Sanchez, but he got out of a bases-loaded jam in the 2nd Inning. Sea Dogs pitchers, at one point, retired 20 consecutive Thunder hitters. The streak was broken with a double by DH Yobal Duenas in the 9th Inning. Sanchez worked four scoreless innings, but it was Justin Sturge (2-1) who got the win with three scoreless innings of relief. Trenton begins a series with Reading on Friday. Ramon Ramirez (4-4, 3.66) starts for the Thunder against Reading's Keith Bucktrot (0-4, 4.07). Game time is 7:05 PM.
