South Jersey Baseball: Friday, July 23, 2004 By Bill Cook The Trenton Thunder, the Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, announced today that RHP Chien-ming Wang and LHP Charlie Manning have been transferred to the Columbus Clippers (AAA) of the International League. RHP Francisco Villegas has been transferred from Tampa (A) of the Florida State League to the Thunder and will join the team today in Manchester, NH to begin their series with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. Wang, a member of the Chinese-Taipei Olympic team, had a 6-5 record with Trenton during 2004 and a 4.04 ERA. He won his last start on July 18th against the Portland Sea Dogs, Boston’s Double-A affiliate, allowing two runs in seven innings with no walks and eight strikeouts. Wang has posted 4-1 record in his last seven starts with a 2.83 ERA. In 2003, Wang had a 7-6 record for the Thunder in 21 starts with a 4.65 ERA. He was signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Yankees on May 5, 2000. Manning was reacquired by the Yankees organization in a trade on June 20th that sent LHP Gabe White to Cincinnati. He had been sent to Cincinnati (7/31/03), along with LHP Brandon Claussen, for INF Aaron Boone. Manning appeared in 10 games for the Thunder with a 1-0 record and a 3.27 ERA. He was 4-4, 5.12 ERA for Chattanooga (AA) before the trade. He was originally a 9th round selection of the Yankees in the 2001 June Draft. Villegas started the 2004 season with Trenton before being sent to Tampa on May 20th. He appeared in 11 games for the Thunder with a 0-0 record, two saves and a 5.63 ERA.
