South Jersey Baseball: Thursday, April 29, 2004 By Dan Loney Jaosn Grove and Kevin Reese delivered with run scoring hits in the 7th Inning to help the Trenton Thunder to a 3-2 win over Akron in Eastern League play on Thursday. Trailing 2-1, Grive hit a solo home run, his 3rd of the year, off Akron reliever Jake Robbins to tie the game. Reese added an RBI double later in the inning scoring J.T. Stotts, who had walked, for the game-winner. Trenton (11-6) managed just six hits in the game, but had enough to win their third straight contest and maintain their hold on 1st Place in the Northern Division. Thunder reliever Joe Orloski (2-1) earned the win with one scoreless inning. Francisco Villegas got Trenton out of a jam in the 8th Inning and worked two scoreless innings for his 1st save. Trenton starter Sean Henn allowed two runs in six innings with one walk and six strikeouts. Robbins (1-1) allowed two runs in 1 2/3 innings for the defeat. The Thunder grabbed the early lead in the 1st Inning when Robinson Cano tripled with one out off Akron starter Francisco Cruceta. . Andy Phillips drove him home on a sacrifice fly. Akron (10-9) took the lead in the fifth against Henn. With two outs, Oscar Salazar picked up an RBI double to tie the game. Franklin Gutierrez followed with an RBI single for a short-lived 2-1 lead for the Aeros. Trenton and Akron meet again on Friday night at 7:05 PM. The Thunder will have Yankees CF Kenny Lofton in the lineup, as part of his rehabilitation assignment. He will play on Friday and Saturday for the Thunder. |
