South Jersey Baseball: Monday, August 23, 2004 By Don Delaney The Riversharks keep getting the breaks they need to keep pace in the second half South Division race. Camden picked up a game on the Newark Bears with a 5-3 win over the Bears in the opener of a three-game series at Campbell’s Field on Monday night. The difference in the game came in the bottom of the fifth inning when Dwight Maness hit would looked to be an inning ending fly ball to right field after Newark starter Brent Billingsley walked the bases loaded. Bears right fielder Keith Maxwell had the ball fall out of his glove and allowed the Riversharks to score three runs on the error, which gave Camden a 4-2 advantage. Brett Laxton continued his strong pitching performance in August as he won for the second straight outing after allowing four hits and two runs in seven innings of work. Chris Widger got the scoring started in the bottom of the second inning with his ninth home run of the season. Widger, Quincy Foster and Travis Anderson each had two hits to lead the offense. Todd Rizzo and Joe Strong both kept their scoreless innings streaks alive as they pitched the final two scoreless innings. Strong’s 1-2-3 ninth inning earned him his seventh save of the year. The Riversharks and Bears will continue to fight for first place on Tuesday night in the middle game of a three-game set at Campbell’s Field. Lincoln Mikkelsen will go for his ninth of the season for the Riversharks. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling 866-SHARKS-9 or by visiting the Campbell’s Field ticket office during normal business hours. The Automated
