South Jersey Baseball: Thursday, September 29, 2005 By Denny Watson The Atlantic City Surf defeated the Somerset Patriots 7-3 Wednesday night at Commerce Bank Ballpark to force a deciding game three in the South Division playoffs. Atlantic City got two RBI from Ozzie Timmons, Julian Yan and Melvin Rosario plus strong pitching from its bullpen to earn the victory. Game three is tonight at 7:05 p.m. where Atlantic City's Mark Persails will face Somerset's Tim Christman. The Surf struck four runs in the third inning and never looked back. Ozzie Timmons drove in two with a double down the left field line and Julian Yan followed with laser shot two-run homer to dead center field. Atlantic City also got a solo home run from Rayner Bautista and two-run homer from Melvin Rosario. Surf starter Gary Bell worked four innings and allowed five hits and two runs. Lincolm Mikkelsen relieved Bell and pitched three scoreless innings to get the victory. Surf closer Ben Grezlovski worked his way out of a bases loaded jame in the ninth by striking out Jeremey Owens and getting Billy Hall and Emiliano Escandon to ground out to end the game. If the team wins tonight, they will return home on Friday to play the winner of the North Division Championship Series at the Sandcastle. Game time will be 6:35pm. For tickets call (609) 344-7873. |
