South Jersey Baseball: Friday, September 3, 2004 By Chuck Betson The Atlantic City Surf took advantage of good starting pitching and three Newark Bears' errors to win 8-1 in Newark Thursday night. Starter Kyle Goldwater overcame four Surf errors to earn his fifth win by pitching eight innings of two-hit ball. He allowed just an unearned run while striking out five. Gary Johnson had four hits and drove in two runs and Ben Candelaria and Carlos Adolfo added two-run homeruns. Jose Lopez suffered his first loss, pitching six innings allowing six runs, two earned, on seven hits. The Surf go for the sweep Friday night as they will send Anthony Chavez (6-4) to the mound against Mike Smith (1-0). The Surf return to the Sandcastle for three games in two days over Labor Day weekend. Fireworks will follow the 6:35pm game on Saturday courtesy of NovaCare and on Sunday the Surf will play a doubleheader with fireworks following the second game, first game begins at 4:05pm. |
