South Jersey Baseball: Thursday, September 2, 2004 By Chuck Betson The Atlantic City Surf moved within one game of the first place Camden Riversharks with their 12-7 over the Newark Bears in Newark Wednesday night. Starter Terrell Wade earned the win with six innings of work, allowing 5 runs on 8 hits. He walked 3 and struck out 4. The Surf knocked the August Atlantic League Pitcher of the Month, Brett Billingsley, out of the game with two outs in the fifth. Billingsley allowed 5 runs on 11 hits while striking out 5. The Surf offense was led by Dario Delgado’s four hit attack, including his 23rd homerun. He drove in two, scored three times, and stole a base. Raul Marval also went deep, his 16th, and drove in 2 runs. Kevin McDonald led the team with 3 RBI on the night. Newark’s Keith Maxwell hit two long balls, his 23rd and 24th, and drove in 4 runs. The teams return to action tonight with the Surf sending Kyle Goldwater (4-3) to the hill against Jose Lopez (1-0). |
