South Jersey Baseball: Monday, August 23, 2004 By Chuck Betson The Atlantic City Surf lost to the Somerset Patriots Monday twice, 14-10 and 4-2 as they were swept at Sandcastle Stadium. Third baseman Jeff Nettles hit a three-run homerun in the top of the seventh for Somerset in the second game for the sweep. In the first game Kyle Goldwater lost for the first time in fourteen starts going five and a third allowing ten runs on twelve hits. Jason Shelley did not make it to the second inning for Somerset after surrendering five runs on three hits. Reliever Lukasiewicz earned the win. Somerset’s Victor Rodriguez had two hits and drove in five runs and Juan Lebron had three RBI. Jeff Nettles went deep in the first game as well. The Surf received two hits and two RBI from Gary Johnson including his sixth homerun. In the second game Shane Heams started for the Patriots and allowed two runs in four and two-thirds while striking out eight. Jason Davis picked up the win in relief. Ivan Montane gave the Surf six strong innings allowing only one run on five hits. Reliever Rodney Dickinson suffered the loss after three runs, two earned, in his inning of work. The Surf try to bounce back tomorrow against the Patriots at the Sandcastle beginning at 6:35pm. It is “Two for Tuesday” as you can buy two upper box tickets for the price of one, two hot dogs for the price of one, and two drinks for the price of one.
