South Jersey Baseball: Friday, July 23, 2004 By Chuck Betson The Atlantic City Surf scored three insurance runs in the top of the eighth that turned out to be the difference in their 4-1 win over the Long Island Ducks at the Sandcastle on Friday night. The win gives the Surf five straight wins against the Ducks at home. The Surf received a home run from Ozzie Timmons to break up the scoreless game in the bottom of the seventh. The home run was Timmons’ league leading eighteenth. The Surf then scored three runs in the eighth led by third baseman Rual Marval’s RBI double and right fielder Wil Quintana’s two-run home run. Surf starter Anthony Chavez pitched eight scoreless inning for the win to even his record at two. Ducks starter Lance Davis suffered the loss after pitching seven and two-thirds. He allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out six. The lone Duck run came in the ninth as Kimera Bartee led off the inning with a home run off of reliever Conor Brooks. The Surf will go for their second straight sweep of the Ducks at the Sandcastle tomorrow night beginning at 6:35pm. It will be Christmas in July at Sandcastle Stadium with the first 1,000 adults 18 or older receiving a Christmas tree ornament courtesy of Novacare. The Surf will send Mark Brownson against the Ducks’ Bill Pulsipher. |
