South Jersey Baseball: Monday, July 19, 2004 By Chuck Betson The Atlantic City Surf used a four run burst in the seventh inning to defeat the Newark Bears Monday night at Sandcastle Stadium, 10-7. The game was a seesaw battle between the two teams as there were six lead changes. The Surf were led by Raul Marval’s two home runs and four RBI. Dario Delgado also connected for the Surf to collect two of his three RBI on the night. Starter Mark Brownson battled through six and a third, allowing seven runs, five earned, on ten hits. Reliever Rob Corrado picked up the win for his two-thirds of scoreless work, while Conor Brooks recorded his twelfth save. The Bears joined in the home run derby with three bombs of their own. Danny Clyburn, Michael Coleburn, and Pete Maestrales hit the home run. Starter Joe Gannon went five innings giving up six runs on seven hits. Reliever Eddie Ramos suffered the loss after giving up four runs, three earned. The two teams return to the Sandcastle tomorrow night at 6:35pm. The Bears will run Clint Smith to the mound against the Surf’s all-star starter Andy Zwirchitz. |
