South Jersey Baseball: Saturday, July 17, 2004 By Chuck Betson The Somerset Patriots scored six runs in the first inning to defeat the Atlantic City Surf 9-6 Saturday night at the Sandcastle. Surf starter Anthony Chavez picked up the loss after giving up seven runs in his five innings of work. Patriots starter Rich Kelley picked up the win. He went five innings in his first appearance for Somerset, allowing four runs on seven hits. The Patriots received home runs from Edgard Clemente, Ryan Radmanovich, and Wakeland. Ozzie Timmons and Melvin Rosario went deep in the losing effort for the Surf. Timmons was four for four with two RBI, while Raul Marval and Gary Johnson each collected two hits. The teams square off in the rubber match tomorrow at the Sandcastle beginning at 1:35pm. The Surf will be handing out replica jersey t-shirts to the first one thousand kids ages 3-12 courtesy of South Jersey Gas. |
