South Jersey Baseball: Friday, July 2, 2004 By Chuck Betson The Surf hit four home runs avenging their loss the night before as they defeated the Pennsylvania Road Warriors 17-3 at Sandcastle Stadium Friday night. The Surf received strong pitching and timely hitting as they scored seventeen runs on twelve hits while receiving eight innings from starter Kyle Goldwater. Goldwater received plenty of run support from the beginning. The Surf scored in six of eight innings. Outfielders Ozzie Timmons, Wil Quantana, third baseman Ryan Minor, and first baseman Dario Delgado all hit the long ball. Minor’s was of the grand slam variety to plate four of his five RBI. Quintana also had five RBI to go with his three hits. Second baseman Demetrius Heath had three hits, scored three runs, and stole two more bases to bring his league leading total to thirty-seven. Goldwater allowed three runs on six hits while striking out seven. The win was his third. Warriors designated hitter Guy Lynam was the lone bright spot. He was a perfect three for three and hit his first home run of the season. Starter Jason Saenz lost his second. In three innings of work he allowed eleven runs on six hits and walked five. The Surf look to take the rubber match tomorrow night at the Sandcastle. Game time is scheduled for 6:35pm. Fireworks will follow the game sponsored by Horizon Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Jersey. Good tickets still remain. |
