South Jersey Baseball: Tuesday, May 11, 2004 By Chuck Betson The Atlantic City Surf (2-2) battled their way to an 8-4 victory over the Pennsylvania Road Warriors (0-5) Tuesday night at The Sandcastle. The Surf scored two runs in the seventh and three in the eighth to come from behind for the victory. Designated hitter Dario Delgado led the way for the Surf offense and reliever Andy High pitched four scoreless innings in relief of starting pitcher Andy Zwirchitz to record the win. Delgado was 3-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. He had a home run and a double. Surf shortstop Victor Gutierrez was 2-3, with a two-run triple in the eighth. Zwirchitz went four innings and struck out five before handing the ball over to Andy High with the Surf trialing 4-2. In his first appearance of the season, High struck out six while only giving up three hits. No Surf pitchers allowed a walk in the game. Road Warrior starter Luis Arroyo fell to 0-2 after pitching six plus innings. He gave up five runs, four of them earned and struck out three. Relief pitcher Johnny Ruffin allowed three runs in the bottom of the eighth in two-thirds of an inning pitched. The teams meet again Wednesday night at 6:35 at The Sandcastle for the second game of this three game series. Scheduled starters include, Garrett Lee for the Road Warriors and Jeff Farnsworth for the Surf. |
