Along with the opening day of baseball and softball in the world of little league, Berlin Township also opened a new complex at Luke Ave. The complex is made up of four new fields, a walking/biking track, and basketball courts. Every league gets a field; one softball/t-ball field, one minor league, one major league, and a very large Babe Ruth league baseball field.
With a great turnout of players, parents and spectators, the Mayor, Town Council and the Athletic Association opened the new complex. Mayor McPeak, told the spectators that the complex is ready to open for play, but is not quite finished. He said that the softball/t-ball field has lights and the rest of the fields will have them in the coming years. The walking/biking track will also be lit in the near future. The District 21 Little League Commissioner said that he was looking forward to some new fields that could be used for the state playoffs, possibly this year at this beautiful new field.
The season started after the Mayor threw out the first pitch at 10 am. The last set of games started at 5:15 pm and didn't end until 7:15. The last two games were a major league baseball and a major league softball game. The team in blue, coach by Mr. Brecker and Mr. Law won the baseball game. The team in black, coached by Mr. Odegaard, Mr. Dotts, and Mr. Borelli, won the softball game. It was a winning end, to a winning day for Berlin Township sports.
