Chargers Jolt Devils with Doubleheader Sweep Sunday, April 1, 2007 By Bob Heller The defending Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference baseball champions, Dominican College came into town Saturday to take on the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. The Chargers left town with a pair of victories, sweeping both games of the doubleheader from the Devils, 19-3 and 8-3. The two losses drop the Devils record to 3-12 overall and 1-2 in league games. Dominican improves to 3-0 in league play and 9-6 overall. Phil Maher took the loss in the nightcap, giving up 12 hits, eight runs (four earned), while striking out 10. Gary Thompson lasted just 3 1/3 innings in the opener and took the loss for the Devils. |
College Golf:
Devils Place Second in Quad Match at Island Green Saturday, March 31, 2007 By Bob Heller The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia coed golf team earned their first two wins of the season in yesterday's quad match at Island Green Country Club, turning in their lowest team score in over seven seasons as the defeated Haverford College and Chestnut Hill College while falling to defending Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference champion Goldey Beacom College. The Devils shot 315 on the afternoon, placing second behind Goldey Beacom's 304. Haverford shot 334 and Chestnut Hill shot 393 on the afternoon. The Devils improve to 2-6 overall with the wins over the Fords and the Griffins. |

Millersville Defeats Devils Friday, March 30, 2007 By Bob Heller Millersville University exploded for eight runs in the first three innings as they handed the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia men's baseball team a 16-6 defeat at Stayer's Field in Millersville, Pennsylvania yesterday afternoon. The loss drops the Devils to 3-10 overall. Millersville improves to 3-17 overall. Millersville got on the scoreboard first, with three hits in the second inning, including a double and a triple to take a 3-0 lead. The Devils got one back in the top of the third as Rich Cipoletti led off the inning with a double and advanced to third on Phil Maher's ground out. Mark Forbes then hit a sacrifice fly to right field allowing Cipoletti to score putting the Devils on the board, 3-1. |

Wings Rocked by Toronto, 15-6 Friday, March 30, 2007 By Jennifer Stefani The Philadelphia Wings offense struggled as they lost to the Toronto Rock by a score of 15-6 in front of 16,813 fans at Air Canada Centre in Toronto, ON. The Wings play again tomorrow night against the Rochester Knighthawks at Blue Cross Arena at 7:30 p.m. "We couldn't get our game plan off the ground tonight," said Wings' General Manager and Head Coach Lindsay Sanderson. "We wanted to come out and score some quick goals, but we couldn't manage to get anything in the net the first half. " |

Raptor of the Week: Akeem Lloyd Monday, March 26, 2007 By Mike Ballard Freshman Akeem Lloyd ran the second leg on three successful Rutgers-Camden relay teams during the season-opening Richard Stockton Invitational March 24. The Raptors set program records in the distance medley (10:53.65) and the 800 sprint medley (1:37.69). They won their race in the distance medley and the 4x400 (3:27.38), while finishing second in the 800 sprint medley. Freshman Akeem Lloyd ran the second leg on three Rutgers University-Camden relay teams, two of which set program records and two of which won their event at the season-opening Richard Stockton Invitational March 24 in Pomona. |

Devils, Thompson Shutout Deacons Monday, March 26, 2007 By Bob Heller Gary Thompson pitched a complete game shutout and Chris Longo drove in three runs as the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia won their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opener, defeating Bloomfield College 5-0 this afternoon at Richie Ashburn Field in Philadelphia. The Devils improve to 3-9 overall and are 1-0 in CACC games. The Deacons fall to 5-12 overall and 0-1 in league play. Thompson allowed just three hits, while striking out 10 batters and walking one in evening his record at 2-2 on the season. USP banged out six hits with Longo's bases-clearing double in the seventh the big blow of the afternoon. Phil Maher went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. |
