KiXX Split Back-To-Back Weekend With Win In Motor City, 9-8 Sunday, January 28, 2007 By Tom Hushen The Philadelphia KiXX (10-5) defeated the Detroit Ignition (11-8) in a rematch from last Saturday's first place battle. On January 20, the KiXX beat the Ignition in an 8-6 thriller that saw Edgar Bartolomeu give Philly the victory with just 10 seconds left. Not to be outdone, Dino Delevski buried a three-pointer with just 45 seconds left to put the KiXX in sole possession of first place, 8-6. The KiXX have already matched their win total from last season, in exactly half the amount of games played. The MISL's best road team (6-1) struck first on a goal from Dave Castellanos, his fourth of the season to put the KiXX up 2-0 just 3:48 into the opening frame. Andy Guastaferro was credited with the helper. |

Devils Power Their Way to Eighth Straight Win Saturday, January 27, 2007 By Bob Heller Allison Weiss and Erin Chesnavich each recorded a double-double as the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women's basketball team powered their way to a 68-43 victory over Caldwell College this evening at the Newman Center in Caldwell, New Jersey. The win, the Devils eighth straight overall and ninth straight in league play improves their record to 13-6 overall and 10-4 in Central Atlantic collegiate Conference games. Caldwell falls to 8-11 overall and 6-8 in league games. This evening's win marked the fourth consecutive game and the fifth in six games that the Devils have held an opponent under 50 points. |

Rally Falls Short as Cougars Defeat Devils Saturday, January 27, 2007 By Bob Heller William Kurtz scored 19 of his 25 points in the second half as the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia men's basketball team cut and 18 point halftime deficit to five but ran out of gas as the Caldwell College Cougars hung on to win 75-65 at the Newman Center in Caldwell, New Jersey. The loss drops the Devils record to 10-8 overall and 9-5 in league play. Caldwell improves to 11-8 overall and 7-6 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. Kurtz led all scorers with 25 points. Eric Cangelosi joined him in double figures with 11 points. Collin Harrington had seven points and a game-high seven rebounds coming off the bench for USP. Michael Mullane had a team high four assists. |

Leighton Lifts Phantoms, Philadelphia Tops Springfield 2-1 Saturday, January 27, 2007 By Mike Thornton Michael Leighton won his second straight start for the Phantoms and earned first star honors with 33 saves as the Philadelphia Phantoms beat the Springfield Falcons 2-1, giving them a two-game winning streak heading into the AHL all-star break. The Phantoms scored first, picking up a power play goal 4:02 into the game. Pete Zingoni filed an alternate flight plan for a John Slaney slapshot from the point, getting his stick on the puck and sending it past Falcons goaltender Jonathan Boutlin for the 1-0 advantage. With just over four minutes remaining in the second period, Matt Ellison registered the eventual game-winner. He was about a foot below the goal line to the right of Boutlin when he fired a puck off the netminder's back and in, giving the Phantoms a 2-0 lead. |

Philadelphia Rolls Over Rock, 10-9 Saturday, January 27, 2007 By Jennifer Stefani The Wings continued their winning streak with a 10-9 win over the Toronto Rock, Saturday at the Wachovia Center in front of 11,292 fans. It was the team's second win in as many nights. Philadelphia defeated New York Friday night. Athan Iannucci led the Wings with three goals and two assists. Goalie Matt Roik led Philadelphia with 31 saves. "It feels great," said Wings' General Manager and Head Coach Lindsay Sanderson. "We won back-to-back games this weekend. It was just fantastic. We had a slow start and came back with three strong wins. We're starting to get things together and are confident now." |

Township Rallies to Edge Williamstown Friday, January 26, 2007 By Mike Costantino In a game that played like a playoff game, Washington Township came back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Williamstown 4-3. With the regular season winding down and Shawnee with a three point lead, Township must win their last two games and hope for some help. Williamstown scored the only two goals of the first period as Tim Larkin scored on a break and Doug Akin deflected a point shot by Mike Lamplugh. Township got on the board early in the second period as Christian Fleagle was set-up by Colin Davis in the slot and suddenly it was 2-1. Williamstown had an opportunity to increase the lead on the power play, but Davis stole the puck and after beating the defenseman, dragged the puck and lifted it top shelf to tie the game at 2-2. |

Betz Pitches Shutout as West Deptford Upsets Cherokee 2 Friday, January 26, 2007 By Mike Costantino Evan Betz stopped all twenty shots as West Deptford defeated Cherokee 2 at Hollydell, 5-0 in Tier 2 competition on Friday night. West Deptford scored twice in the opening period, one on a slap shot by Flood and the second goal on the power play by Cory Jackmuff. Anthony DeSimone got into the scoring column late in the second period as West Deptford built their lead to 3-0, DeSimone also delivered a few crunching checks as well. West Deptford added two short-handed goals in the third period, one by DeHart to complete the impressive win over Cherokee, who suffered just their second loss of the season. |

Phantoms Overpower Penguins Friday, January 26, 2007 By Mike Thornton Nolan Baumgartner tied a team record with four assists and Pete Zingoni earned first star honors with two gritty goals as the Philadelphia Phantoms topped the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 7-2 in front of 7,274 on Friday night at the Wachovia Spectrum. Goaltender Mike Leighton stopped 26 of 28 shots to earn his first win with the Phantoms in his first start for the club. The Phantoms got on the board first with a power play tally from Darren Reid at 12:04 of the first period. David Printz blasted a shot from the right point that hit Mark Cullen and came to Stefan Ruzicka. Ruzicka slid it to Reid, who slammed it past Andrew Penner for the 1-0 lead. |

Wings Soar Past Titans 16-11 Friday, January 26, 2007 By Jennifer Stefani The Philadelphia Wings won their second straight game, 16-11, in their first ever meeting against the New York Titans at Nassau County Coliseum in Uniondale, NY. Philadelphia found their firepower as three players scored three goals or more during the contest including rookie Athan Iannucci and Sean Greenhalgh, both with four, and Dan Marohl with three. The Wings face the Toronto Rock in their next game tomorrow night at the Wachovia Center at 7:30 p.m. "Our offense finally got their feet under them tonight," said Wings' General Manager and Head Coach Lindsay Sanderson. "The challenge for this young team is to keep our focus and rest and prepare for Toronto tomorrow." |

Devils Survive Scare from Wildcats Wednesday, January 24, 2007 By Bob Heller The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia men's basketball team survived a huge second half run from the Wilmington College Wildcats to earn the fourth win in five games, a 68-57 triumph at the Bobby Morgan Arena in Philadelphia tonight. The win improves the Devils record to 10-7 overall and 8-4 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. Wilmington remains winless on the season, falling to 0-19 overall and 0-11 in league games. With the win, and coupled with Holy Family University's loss tonight, the Devils move into sole possession of third place in the CACC league standings. |

The win improves the Devils record to 11-6 overall and 9-4 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. Wilmington falls to 9-9 overall and 6-7 in league play. The win moves the Devils into a tie for third place with Philadelphia University with identical 9-4 records. Bloomfield College is in second place with a 9-3 league record. |

Phantoms Fall To Hershey, Bears Take 6-1 Win Wednesday, January 24, 2007 By Mike Thornton Chad Wiseman recorded a natural hat trick to lift the Hershey Bears to a 6-1 win over the Philadelphia Phantoms at the Wachovia Spectrum on Wednesday night. After Wiseman opened the scoring in the first period, the Bears jumped out to a 4-0 second period lead on two more from Wiseman along a Tomas Fleischmann goal before the Phantoms got on the board at 13:26. Riley Cote brought a puck in over the line on the left wing side and dropped a pass off to Frederik Cabana, who fired a long slapshot from the top of the circle that beat goaltender Davis Parley to make it a 4-1 game. Matt Hendricks and Dave Steckel added second period goals in a 19 second stretch to close out the scoring. |

Township Nets Six in Third in Beating Rancocas Monday, January 22, 2007 By Mike Costantino Colin Davis scored six goals and TJ DiSpaldo added three goals and four assists as Washington Township pulled away from Rancocas 12-3. With the game just 2-1 after the first period, Township took control in the second period scoring four times as DiSpaldo, Davis with two and David Moore all found the net. The third period was all Townships as Davis and DiSpaldo continued to create opportunities. Davis had a hat trick in the period and joining him with goals were Jim Tumolo, Christian Biscardi and DiSpaldo. The Rancocas goals were scored by Mike Walsh, Keven Lion and Shane Veight. |

Raptor of the Week: Sydney Francis Monday, January 22, 2007 By Mike Ballard Senior forward Sydney Francis earns his third Raptor of the Week honor this season after helping the men's basketball team snap an 11-game losing streak with a 65-61 win over Rutgers-Newark Jan. 20. It was the Raptors' first New Jersey Athletic Conference win since Jan. 28, 2004, snapping a string of 44 straight conference defeats. Against Newark, Francis notched 14 points, two steals and a game-high eight rebounds. Earlier in the week, in a 65-62 overtime loss to The College of New Jersey, he had a game-high 23 points and a team-high eight rebounds. For the week he averaged 18.5 points and eight rebounds. Francis also won Raptor of the Week honors on November 20 and December 4. |

Devils Cruise to Sixth Straight Victory Monday, January 22, 2007 By Bob Heller The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women's basketball team placed three players in double figures as they cruised to their sixth straight win, a 68-48 triumph over Georgian Court University tonight at the Bobby Morgan Arena in Philadelphia. With the win, the Devils improve to 11-6 overall and 8-4 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. USP has now won six straight overall and seven straight conference games. Georgian Court falls to 3-14 overall and 1-11 in league play. Shelby Rance led all scorers with 19 points. Rance connected on seven of 13 shots from the field (1-2 3FG) and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Joining her in double figures were Lori Sedina and Rashanna Edwards. Sedina made six of 11 shots from the field along with a pair of free throws for 14 points. Lori also pulled down six boards, had two assists, two blocks and three steals. Edwards scored 13 points on 5-for-9 shooting from the field (1-2 3FG) and a pair of free throws. Rashanna also dished out a game-high six assists. Allison Weiss pulled down ten rebounds to lead the Devils. |
