Fehr Lifts Bears, Phantoms Fall 4-1 Saturday, December 23, 2006 By Mike Thornton Eric Fehr scored twice to lead the Hershey Bears to a 4-1 win over the Philadelphia Phantoms in AHL action on Saturday night at the GIANT Center. The loss snapped Philadelphia's two-game winning streak. Hershey scored the game's first goal just 56 seconds in. Dave Steckel took an initial shot that was stopped by Scott Munroe, but Steckel cleaned up his own rebound from 10 feet out to give the Bears the early 1-0 advantage. |
High School Ice Hockey:
Haines and Osterdahl lead Williamstown over Township Friday, December 22, 2006 By Mike Costantino Justin Osterdahl scored four goals and Josh Haines played outstanding in nets as Williamstown defeated Washington Township 6-4 in last game before the holiday break for both teams. Williamstown was in control of the game until midway thru the final period having built a 5-1 lead. Tim Larkin and Osterdahl put Williamstown up 2-0 after the first period and Haines stopped several breakaways. The second period was much like the first, Haines again stoning Township on three breakaways and Osterdahl scoring two goals. Christian Biscardi finally solved Haines and Township trailed 4-1 after two periods despite out-shooting Williamstown 29-12. |

Three-Goal Third Lifts Philadelphia Over Binghamton 4-2 Friday, December 22, 2006 By Mike Thornton The Philadelphia Phantoms erased two one-goal deficits in the final period and ended up on the right end of a 4-2 decision over the Binghamton Senators on Friday night at the Wachovia Spectrum. Mark Cullen, Nolan Baumgartner, Pete Zingoni and Boyd Kane scored for the Purple, which earned its second consecutive victory. For the first time this season, the Phantoms played a game through two periods without either side scoring a goal. The scoring drought finally ended 5:33 into the third frame when Binghamton blocked a Phantoms clearing attempt and the puck ended up behind the Philadelphia blueliners on the stick of Ryan Vesce. Vesce bided his time before faking and then beating Scott Munroe to give the Senators a 1-0 lead. |

Second Half Run Propels Devils to Win Tuesday, December 19, 2006 By Bob Heller The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia used a 21-3 run at the start of the second half and Keith Dumas hit two free throws with 4.2 seconds left to seal a 73-69 win in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's basketball game tonight in Bloomfield, New Jersey. The Devils record improves to 4-4 overall and 4-2 in league play. Bloomfield falls to 2-7 overall and 0-4 in CACC games. William Kurtz led three Devils in double figures with 20 points. Collin Harrington added 18 points and 12 rebounds while Keith Dundas chipped in 14. Michael Mullane led the Devils with four assists while Harrington added three blocks. |

Devils Defense Does in Deacons Tuesday, December 19, 2006 By Bob Heller Defense played in key role as the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia held Bloomfield College to just 26.7% shooting in the second half as overcame a seven-point halftime deficit to defeat the Deacons, 64-53 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's basketball game in Bloomfield, New Jersey tonight. The win improves the Devils record to 4-4 overall and 2-4 in league play. Bloomfield falls to 4-4 overall and 4-2 in league play. Shelby Rance led the Devils with 22 points on 7-for-14 shooting from the field. Lori Sedina added 13 points, connecting on five of eight shots from the field while Allison Weiss added 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Sedina also dished out four assists while Rance recorded three steals and a pair of blocked shots. |

Carsusone and Akin lead Williamstown by Eastern Monday, December 18, 2006 By Mike Costantino Andrew Carsusone scored two goals and Doug Akin added a goal and two assists as Williamstown defeated Eastern 6-3 in Tier 1 action played at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Dan Drazen scored all three goals for Eastern. The Vikings jumped out early in the game as Drazen scored a power play goal two minutes into the game. But that lead was short-lived as Williamstown responded with goals by Mike Mathews and Justin Osterdahl to take a 2-1 lead after the first period. Carsusone put home a rebound of a shot by Josh Haynes midway through the second period to put Williamstown ahead 3-1 and Akin added a goal just beating the buzzer at the end of the period for a 4-1 margin. |

Raptor of the Week: Karen Carter Monday, December 18, 2006 By Mike Ballard Senior forward Karen Carter notched a double-double in her only game of the week to help the Rutgers-Camden women's basketball team head into the semester break on a winning note with a 57-45 victory at the College of Staten Island Dec. 12. Carter collected game-high totals of 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Lady Raptors, aided by 7-for-13 field goal shooting. Senior forward Karen Carter collected a double-double with game-high totals of 17 points and 10 rebounds as Rutgers-Camden defeated the College of Staten Island, 57-45, in a non-conference game Dec. 12 in Staten Island, N.Y. The Lady Raptors held a slim 26-25 halftime lead, but opened up the game in the second half, increasing their margin to as many as 15 points (55-40). The victory snapped a four-game losing streak for Rutgers-Camden, which improved to 4-5 heading into the holiday break. |
