Comeback Kids: Phantoms Top Hartford Sunday, December 11, 2005 By Brian Smith The Phantoms did things the hard way Saturday night, coming from behind a total of three times before taking a 3-2 shootout victory over the Hartford Wolf Pack before 4,664 at the Hartford Civic Center. John Slaney earned first star honors by registering the tying goal in regulation and the clinching shootout attempt, and is now just two points away from becoming the American Hockey League's all-time leading scoring defenseman. |

Comeback Effort by Devils Falls Short Saturday, December 10, 2005 By Bob Heller The University of the Sciences men's basketball team's battle back from a 20-point second half deficit fell just short as the Post University Eagles defeated the Devils 71-64 today in Waterbury, CT. The loss drops the Devils to 0-7 overall and 0-5 in CACC games. Post improved to 2-4 overall, 1-3 in the CACC. Bill Kurtz led the Devils with 22 points while Collin Harrington added 10. Post put four players in double figures, led by Arthur Robertson's 22 points. A.J. Reitter had 13 points while Peter Lawal and Isa Carnegie chipped in 10 apiece. Lawal also recorded a game-high 16 rebounds and six blocked shots. |

Shumoski, Edwards Help Lead Devils to Win over Eagles Saturday, December 10, 2005 By Bob Heller Leah Shumoski scored 33 points and Rashanna Edwards added a career-high 20 points as the University of the Sciences women’s basketball team won their second straight game, 87-64 over Post University today in Waterbury, CT. Shumoski connected on 14 of 29 shots from the field and was a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line. The senior forward also led the Devils with six rebounds and three assists. Edwards connected on eight of 10 shots from the field, including two of three from three-point range and a pair of free throws en route to her career-high performance. |

KiXX Edge Chicago Storm, 3-2 Saturday, December 10, 2005 By David Deal The Philadelphia KiXX (3-3) edged the visiting Chicago Storm (2-4), 3-2, in front of 4,984 fans at the Wachovia Spectrum. KiXX forward John Barry Nusum recorded the game-winning goal on an assist from goalkeeper Peter Pappas at 10:40 of the third quarter. Pappas (3-3) earned the victory between the posts for Philadelphia, turning away eight of the 10 shots he faced, while Danny Waltman (2-4) took the loss for the Storm with seven saves on 10 chances. |

Phantoms Win Big Over Albany Saturday, December 10, 2005 By Brian Smith Phantoms rookie Stefan Ruzicka had another breakout night against the Albany River Rats, scoring twice and adding an assist, as the Purple throttled the Rats 6-1. In the most lopsided win of the season, six Phantoms finished with at least two points. Veteran John Slaney had eight of the Phantoms season-high 51 shots and added a goal and an assist, putting him just three points away from becoming the American Hockey League's (AHL) all-time leading scoring defensemen. His run at the history books shows him with 451 points. |

KiXX Fall to Defending Champs in Milwaukee, 5-3 Friday, December 9, 2005 By David Deal The Philadelphia KiXX (2-3) dropped a 5-3 decision to the defending Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Milwaukee Wave (6-0) at the U.S. Cellular Arena in the opening game of the team’s first set of back-to-back games this season. The KiXX conclude the series versus the Chicago Storm at the Wachovia Spectrum on Saturday, December 10. Defender Matt Schmidt recorded the game-winning goal on an assist from Todd Dusosky at 14:35 of the second quarter. |

Baldiserra Earns Team MVP Honors at Rutgers-Camden Men's Soccer Banquet Tuesday, December 6, 2005 By Mike Ballard Sophomore midfielder Pat Baldiserra was named the Rutgers University-Camden men's soccer team MVP for 2005 when the Scarlet Raptors held their annual post-season banquet Sunday, Dec. 4, at Dave and Buster's in Philadelphia. The Raptors also cited senior back Brandon Bond as the team's Defensive Player of the Year, while senior midfielder Baris Uslu earned honors as the club's Offensive Player of the Year. |

Poor Shooting Leads to another Loss by Devils Tuesday, December 6, 2005 By Bob Heller For the first time this season, the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia's men's basketball team was not in the game in the final minute as they connected on just 27.8% of their shots before falling to Felician College 63-47 to remain winless in the 2005-06 campaign. The Golden Falcons led wire to wire in improving to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in CACC games. USP falls to 0-5 overall and 0-3 in conference play. |

Raptor of the Week: Carmen Zimmitt Monday, December 5, 2005 By Mike Ballard Senior guard Carmen Zimmitt produced double-digit scoring outputs in all three of her women’s basketball games last week, capped by a career-high 24 points against Ramapo College Dec. 3 in a game where she also had a career-high seven steals. Zimmitt averaged 16.7 points, 8.3 rebounds and 4.7 steals for the week, while also blocking two shots. She hit 12 of her 15 foul shots (80 percent) and is now shooting 82.4 percent (28-for-34) on the season from the charity stripe. |
