Slaney Named Phantoms Captain Friday, October 7, 2005 By Mike Thornton The Philadelphia Phantoms announced today that defenseman John Slaney will captain the defending Calder Cup Champion squad. Slaney becomes the seventh captain in franchise history. This will be Slaney's sixth season with the Phantoms and 15th in the professional ranks. He began his career with the American Hockey League's (AHL) Baltimore Skipjacks in 1991-92. He came to the Phantoms on Jan. 14, 2001 in a trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Since that time, he has laced up the skates in 281 regular season games for the Phantoms, compiling 68 goals and 210 points: 281(68/142/210). His 210 points are fifth all-time in the overall Phantoms scoring record books and 122 points better than any Philly AHL defenseman. |

Lenape Flexes Their Muscles against West Thursday, October 6, 2005 By Jerome Michaels It was a physical game with two teams looking to take advantage with their finesse and speed. The Lenape boy’s soccer team traveled to Cherry Hill West trying to pick up their third win in a row against the Lions. Both of these teams did not possess that one dominate player that could single handedly take over a game, but they had players on the field that had the talent of scoring goals. In a very closely matched game, Jim Eveland would provide the eventual game winner against West and helped Lenape pick up the 2-0 victory. |

Lindenwold Pick Up First Victory Thursday, October 6, 2005 By Evonne Vaughn Two teams took the field today with the confidence of picking up their first win of the season. Overbrook and Lindenwold were those two teams participating in a non-league field hockey game held at Lindenwold High School. Earlier in the week, the Lady Rams from Overbrook suffered a one goal loss in a game that could have gone either way. Lindenwold had played a strong game against powerhouse West Deptford on Tuesday but could not pick up the win. Against Overbrook, the Lady Lions would stay one step ahead in this fast moving, intense but exhausting game. Lisa Darji would score a second half goal to defeat Overbrook by a final score of 1-0. |

Moorestown Clinch Tenth Straight Title Wednesday, October 5, 2005 By Crystal Parker Each game that the Lady Falcons from Burlington Township’s field hockey team has played has been an uphill battle. But that hasn’t stopped them from putting on the uniform and giving their best effort on the field. It would another steep hill to climb as they would travel to Moorestown High School to take on the Lady Quakers. Moorestown had started out the week with a tough win over Cherokee and were looking to keep up their finesse on the field. Burlington Township would keep the game close in the first half, but the Quakers were able to break this game open in the second half. Moorestown would pick up their eighth victory of the season by defeating the Falcons by a 9-0 margin. |
